About Engel Ayurpura
Please introduce us to the family, as we understand Engel Ayapura is the second property managed by the Kohlers, correct?
Our family is deeply rooted in the region around Carezza Lake in the Dolomites. It was here that our great-great-grandparents decided in 1892 to rent out a few guest rooms alongside their agricultural work. Over the generations, this small hotel was further developed and expanded, becoming our current main property, Engel Gourmet & Spa. As Carmen Kohler (my mother) has always been interested in wellbeing and health programs but never found an offer in Europe that truly convinced her, she began offering authentic Ayurveda and Detox programs at the main property around 15 years ago, with the help of experts.
Who had the idea of creating an Ayurvedic hotel and why?
Over time, the desire emerged within our family to create a place in the Dolomites that would give Ayurveda the space it truly deserves. During the pandemic, we took the opportunity to further develop our vision. In close collaboration with our Ayurvedic physicians and the Marx-Ladurner architectural firm, we created a place (in Sanskrit, Pura) dedicated to the knowledge of long life (Ayurveda).
What is unique about the property and experience?
Our entire concept, from the architecture to wellbeing programmes, is centered around the theme of lightness and ease. We believe that lightness is essential in today's fast-paced world.
